Mavericks - A Profile

I want to dance the night away

Finishing second to the seemingly invincible Team Bath in the league stage of last year’s Superleague table, then losing narrowly in the play off finals, the Mavericks certainly know how to play netball. Along with Loughborough Lightning and the Brunel Hurricanes, we think that the Mavericks have the squad, the talent and the commitment to seriously challenge Team Bath this year. One of the most important games of the season for the Mavericks will be the mouth-watering first game of the season on the 29th October.

Based in the East of England, the Mavericks boast a very impressive squad with some huge names: both the England Captain Amanda Newton and Vice-Captain Karen Atkinson are part of the squad, as well as Louisa Brownfield and Naomi Siddall.

The Mavericks have had two excellent seasons so far and they’re no doubt out to prove that they can go one step further, topple Team Bath, and go on to win the competion. Should be an interesting season.

Squad

As noted above the Mavericks star players, England Captain Amanda Newton and Vice-Captain Karen Atkinson are joined by star players such as Louisa Brownfield and Naomi Siddall. This is a very strong basis for a very strong team.
The Brunel Hurricanes squad for the 2007-2008 season is as follows:

Summary

We think that the Mavericks have got as good a chance as anyone to topple Team Bath. If they don’t, then expect a tough battle for second place between the Mavericks, Brunel Hurricanes and Loughborough Lightning. All these teams will be without some star players during the internationals throughout the season, so it may well be down to the strength of the remaining members of the squads to pull their teams through.

It’s going to be an entertaining season.
